Retinol
Retinol is one of the most studied ingredients in the world, able to keep aging skin at the level of healthy youthful functioning for many years to come. It works to stimulate cellular renewal and the production of its own collagen.
For all its advantages, retinoids need the right approach and an adaptation period is required, at this moment the skin may not react in the best way - peel off, blush, some even begin retinoid dermatitis.
Due to the strong irritant ability, it is better to avoid the simultaneous combination of retinoids and components that have a similar skin-renewing effect. However, in no case should you forget about SPF protection - this will help to avoid unwanted pigmentation and burns.
❌Bad combinations
1. Retinoids + AHA / BHA acids
Retinoids and acids can have a very dangerous effect on the skin because they both work to thin the skin layer. If you have thin and sensitive skin, it is best to do two separate courses of these products.
2. Retinoids + benzoyl peroxide
This combination can have a strong irritant effect.
3. Retinoids + phytoestrogens
Phytoestrogens have a similar effect to retinoids - both regulate collagen synthesis, and when applied together, they can overload the skin with unnecessary work.
4. Retinoids + peptides
Peptides are destroyed in the acidic pH of retinoids.
✅ Good combinations
1. Retinoids + plant extracts rich in antioxidants, vitamins D, E, Coenzyme Q10
Antioxidants help the skin cope better with stress, reduce the irritating activity of retinol.
2. Retinoids + Hyaluronic Acid
Additional hydration with hyaluronic acid will balance the renewing work of retinoids and help the skin renew itself effectively.
3. Retinoids + Niacinamide / Panthenol
To reduce the irritant factor of retinol, you can try this scheme - 20 minutes before applying retinol, apply skin-soothing and healing niacinamide or panthenol.
